Going from Reykjavik or Keflavík international airport eather way take drive road 41 and then turn on road 44 to Hafnir. We recommend if you are hungry to stop in Keflavík on the way at Café Duus before you hit the road.
Time: Really depends on how long time you deside to stop in each place. Driving is estimated to be 1 and ½ hours.
1) The waves can be powerful in the old fishing village Hafnir and by the old harbor it is nice to stand and look over the sea. This place was once the largest shipping port in Reykjanes when they used to use rowboats. Continue on road 425
2) If you are tired of driving it is ideal to have a walk to Hafnaberg. It is only 4 kilometers from Hafnir. Hafnarberg has a wild birdlife and nice view over the ocean. Please keep caution because the cliffs are rocky and loose.
3) Next to Hafnarberg, just above Sandvík is the well-known Bride Between Continents. It is a small footbridge over a major fissure which provides clear evidence of the presence of a diverging plate margin. The bridge was built as a symbol for the connection between Eurasian an North America tectonic plates. One can cross the continental divide on Leif the Lucky's Bridge and take home a personalised certificate at Reykjanes Information Center as a confirmation and a reminder of this spectacular experience. The information center is located at Grænásbraut 506, Ásbrú in Reyjanesbær.
4) Tip of the Reykjanes can be the next destination and there is where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes onshore. Area of Reykjanes is mostly geothermal. The first lighthouse is Iceland was build there on Valahnjukur in year 1878. The one that stand there today was built 1907. From there you can see 51 meter seacliff called Karlinn (e. The Man). It is common to spot Whales from the land. About 8 seamiles south of Reykjanes, there is a small steep rock island called Eldey. It is far the biggest anne colony in Iceland. The place is really inspiring and ideal for photographers. The walk up Valahnjúkur is short and nice for everyone but please keep caution.
5) Gunnuhver, Iceland‘s largest mud pool, a geothermal area, a field of steaming fumoroles and boiling mud pools.
6) Brimketill close to Gunnuhver and is one of the most popular tourist spot in Reykjanes. A lavarock formation on the coast, shaped like a pool.
7) In Grindavik are powerful waves and there is a nice ride along the coast, watching the boats come in to the harbor. If you are hungry by now we recommend Salthúsið, they specialize in cod fish.
8) It is nice to go out of your comfort zone and do some activites we recommend ATV Tours in Grindavik.
9) On way back on road 43 we recommend take a dip and relax and the Blue lagoon also if you want more local experience there is a nice geothermal swimming pool in Keflavík called Vatnaveröld.
